Estimates are estimates
Results from our AI features, Describe and Snap, are always labelled Estimate. They can be off, and photo estimates often miss large portions. You can check and edit every item before you log it, and change it anytime after. Georgian dishes and other foods calculated from recipes are marked Estimate too, because home recipes vary.
Where nutrition data comes from
Every food shows its source on its detail screen: USDA FoodData Central, Open Food Facts, a restaurant's published nutrition information, or products added by ZomaLog users. Data can be incomplete or out of date, and recipes and labels change, so check the pack when it matters. If something looks wrong, tap Report a problem. When a value is missing, we show it as unknown, never as zero.
How your targets are calculated
Your starting calorie target uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. It estimates the energy your body uses at rest from your weight, height, age and sex (or an average of both, if you'd rather not say), then multiplies it by your everyday activity. For most people this formula lands within about 10%. Tap Why this number? on any target to see the calculation. Workouts are already included, so we don't add exercise calories back.
Your targets are a starting point, and you can change them anytime. They never change without your OK.
When to talk to a professional
If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, live with diabetes, kidney disease or another health condition, take medication that affects your appetite, or have a history of disordered eating, talk to a healthcare professional before changing how you eat. In a medical emergency, call your local emergency number.
